To tell you the truth, I’m really terrified of public speaking. I find myself getting more nervous than I have to be, and I can always depend on my voice cracking in the middle of my sentences. While I love Awards Day and being able to recognize my sweet students for their accomplishments and hard work all year, I always dread having to stand up on the podium and speaking in front of adults. I know it might seem weird since I’m a teacher and teachers are always speaking in front of the kids. But somehow it’s so much more different in front of adults! (hahahah…) Good thing this year my principal did all the speaking, and I could just stand, smile, and congratulate the kids! (Dream came true!)
After the ceremony, I always invite the parents to go back into our classroom and show them a video montage of our classroom pictures throughout the year, and this year was no different. It’s hard at the end of the year to do one more thing, but creating the video has always been one of my favorite things to do. I love reliving the good memories in our classroom and reflecting on how far and how much my kids have progressed since the beginning of the school year. I love watching the parents’ and kids’ reactions as they see the pictures and of course, there are always tears of joy and pride for the kids.
Seeing the parents so happy and proud of their kids is one of the reasons why I love being a teacher. I also love meeting and getting to know so many parents along the way. After the ceremony today, I got an email from a parent with a note and this sign attached. It was so sweet, I had to share. 🙂
So happy my ‘babies’ are now moving on…and I will definitely miss them.
