What’s more fun during the fall to teach about than bats in the fall?! SPIDERS, of course! With students coming in with such rich background knowledge and varied experiences with spiders, it’s definitely a fun topic to discuss, learn, and write about! In addition, it’s also so relevant at this time of the year as they see cobwebs and spider decorations everywhere.

Another favorite idea of mine is this spider activity is reading ALL ABOUT SPIDERS!!! Below are some nonfiction and fiction books on spiders. I love reading both genres to help my students between fact vs. fiction.

NATGeo Spiders– This short book on spiders is just perfect for little readers. With detailed photographs and descriptions, it helps children learn the main facts on spiders.
Spiders– Who doesn’t love Gail Gibbons?! Just like her book on bats, this is the perfect blend of facts and realistic pictures of spiders for children!
The Very Busy Spider– A fictional story on a very busy spider whose hard work pays off at the end.
Miss Spider’s Tea Party-Miss Spider wants to have a tea party with all the insects! Will they come to join her or will they all stay away?
Diary of a Spider– Who knew that spiders are so similar to people? In this whimsical story, students will learn how this special spider can be so different, yet so much alike to them!
After reading all about spiders, it’s time for the students to share what they KNOW! To encourage my students to write and make it engaging, I love having them complete this easy-to-do Spider Craftivity!
It is filled with graphic organizers on spiders and becomes a book on spiders for students to share and keep. All the tracers, parts of a spider, and graphic organizers (they all fit the size and shape of the spider’s body) are all included! All the writing activities are meaningful, engaging, and arranged two to a page to save paper from printing. Yes, I’m all about saving paper! 🙂
